Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Thursday presented a proposed budget of N878,152,970,000 for the 2026 fiscal year to the Bauchi State House of Assembly for consideration.
Presenting the appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” the governor said the proposal is designed to strengthen financial reporting systems, enhance revenue generation, and sustain ongoing reforms across key sectors of the state.
Governor Mohammed explained that the 2026 budget is predicated on an oil production benchmark of 1.6 million barrels per day, an oil price benchmark of $68 per barrel, and an exchange rate of N1,440 to the US dollar.
A breakdown of the proposal shows a recurrent expenditure of N312.69 billion (35%) and a capital expenditure of N567.47 billion (65%). Personnel costs are projected at N106.84 billion, while overheads will account for N204.94 billion. The economic sector is allocated N435.52 billion (49.6%), while the social sector is expected to receive N310.43 billion (34.4%).
The governor noted that the 2026 proposal represents a 41.07% increase over the 2025 budget, driven by ongoing fiscal reforms and anticipated improvements in revenue collection, including tax adjustments.
Responding after the presentation, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, commended the harmonious working relationship between the legislature and the executive over the past six years. He said the partnership has promoted transparency, accountability, and prudent management of state resources, resulting in meaningful development across the state.
The Speaker assured that the assembly would subject the budget to thorough scrutiny, debate, and refinement through its relevant standing and sectoral committees to ensure it aligns with the needs and aspirations of the people of Bauchi State.
