Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, on Monday honoured an invitation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged fraudulent agency.
The invitation is connected to the commission’s probe of the Presidential Fiscal Intelligence and Public Complaints Commission (PFIPC), a body which authorities say has no legal recognition or official mandate from the federal government.
Gbajabiamila arrived at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja earlier today and was ushered in for questioning by a team of investigators handling the case. While details of his interrogation remain undisclosed, sources close to the commission confirmed that the Chief of Staff cooperated fully with the process and provided clarifications on issues raised by the inquiry.
The PFIPC came under scrutiny following intelligence reports suggesting that the group had been operating under the guise of a presidential agency, potentially defrauding individuals and organisations while leveraging the appearance of government backing.
President Tinubu had previously ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter, directing the ICPC to uncover the extent of the operations and identify any collaborators within or outside government.
Although Gbajabiamila is not accused of wrongdoing, his appearance before the commission is seen as a key step in establishing the chain of command and verifying whether any official authorisation was ever granted to the suspect group.
The ICPC is expected to conclude its probe within the timeframe set by the presidency, with a report to be submitted in due course. As of press time, the Chief of Staff had left the ICPC premises without making any public comments on his session with investigators.
