Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has officially declared his intention to contest the governorship seat of Katsina State in the upcoming election.
Daura made his declaration at a youth sensitisation and mobilisation programme held in the state capital, stating that the time had come to publicly announce the political platform—the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—through which he would pursue his ambition.
Addressing party loyalists and supporters, the former security chief called for unity, discipline, and respect among ADC members, expressing confidence that with commitment, the party would reclaim its lost glory in the state.
The declaration event also featured strong remarks from a party chieftain, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, who charged members to shun fear and greed in the pursuit of the party’s objectives.
Inuwa did not spare the ruling party, accusing it of undermining local farmers through policies that favour food imports despite rising costs of farm inputs. To illustrate the economic hardship, he noted that a farmer would need to sell about 50 bags of maize to raise ₦1 million—a situation he described as a severe decline in purchasing power.
In a boost for the ADC, Inuwa disclosed that 71 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had recently defected to the party. He also claimed that the entire structure of the Labour Party in the area was in the process of joining the ADC, a move expected to significantly strengthen the party’s position ahead of future polls.
The event concluded with calls for intensified grassroots mobilisation and sustained youth engagement as the ADC expands its political activities across Katsina State.
