Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has launched a blistering attack on the opposition, accusing them of pushing “flawed logic” and “propaganda” to undermine the credibility of recent elections.
In a lengthy post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Keyamo dismissed claims of widespread electoral irregularities, describing opposition figures as “a bunch of lazy and shameless characters” who are unable to accept defeat.
The Minister argued that the opposition is relying on a minuscule fraction of polling unit results to fabricate a narrative of a compromised electoral process.
He stated that out of a total of 2,822 polling units in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the opposition has only been able to point to corrected result sheets in fewer than ten units.
“Out of a total of 2,822 poling units in FCT, they display result sheets that were corrected (for whatever reason) in less than 10 units to attempt to prove that THE WHOLE ELECTION was marred by irregularities,” Keyamo wrote.
He further challenged the opposition’s arithmetic, noting that even if the number of affected units were generously put at 50, it would still leave over 2,770 units with unchallenged results. “Even in some of these units, the corrected figures favour their own Party(ies),” he added, questioning the basis for the opposition’s outrage.
Keyamo characterized the excuses being peddled by opposition parties as an “opium” used to numb their “pain, disappointment and shame” following their rejection by the electorate. He asserted that their relentless criticism of the electoral process is not born out of a genuine desire for democratic integrity, but from a self-serving perspective.
“The ONLY ELECTION THAT CAN BE FREE AND FAIR, IN THEIR OWN WARPED MINDS, IS WHEN THE RULING PARTY LOSES,” the Minister stated emphatically.
He warned against the opposition’s attempts to use this “flawed logic” to create “mass hysteria” and stir social unrest among unsuspecting Nigerians, insisting that their primary forte is propaganda, not electoral competition.
“Nigerians are NOT FOOLS,” Keyamo concluded, urging the public to see through what he termed the “theatrics and grandstanding” of a desperate opposition.
