The federal government has signed contracts worth over N690 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of major roads in the South-west and North-west regions.
The projects span Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun states, the Ministry of Works announced yesterday in Abuja.
The contracts were signed at the ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
All four roads will be built using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement technology.
Minister of Works David Umahi described the projects as strategic national infrastructure.
He said the roads would improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
“Our vision is to build roads that will last for generations,” Umahi stated.
He noted that the technology would serve Nigerians for up to 100 years.
Umahi said the Mando-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State was part of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promises from the 2022/2023 electioneering period.
The minister commended the selected contractors for their competence.
He urged them to mobilise to site immediately.
Project breakdown
Messrs J. Patel and Sons Nigeria Limited will reconstruct the 122-kilometre Mando-Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State at N178.1 billion.
Messrs JRB Construction Company Limited will dualise the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road linking Oyo and Ogun states at N295.9 billion. The project covers 114.5 kilometres in single carriageway equivalent.
Messrs Truecrete Solutions Limited will construct the 70-kilometre Osogbo-Ikirun-Akoda Road in Osun State at N101.8 billion.
Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited will build the 73-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road at N114.8 billion.
Permanent Secretary Rafiu Adeladan described the signing as the formal commencement of project execution.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to quality assurance and timely delivery.
The ministry said the projects would accelerate economic development across the country.
