ABUJA – A former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), has publicly denied serious allegations of rape, sexual assault, and forced abortion made against him by a woman, Hadiza Baffa.
The allegations recently went viral in online videos under hashtags such as #JusticeForHadizaBaffa. In the videos, Hadiza leveled grave accusations against the former minister.
Addressing the media in Abuja through his solicitor, Abdulaziz Ibrahim (SAN), Turaki’s legal team categorically refuted all claims. Ibrahim stated that the allegations had previously been investigated by the police and were found to be false.
“Her allegations of rape, forced abortions, rituals, threats to life and breach of promise to marry her were all thoroughly investigated by the police and found to be false,” Ibrahim stated.
The lawyer provided a narrative of the relationship, explaining that Turaki had once acted as Hadiza’s guardian at the request of her mother, a childhood acquaintance. However, due to her alleged repeated misconduct, he eventually withdrew from that role and returned her to her family.
Ibrahim claimed that after unsuccessful attempts to use official channels, Hadiza resorted to a social media campaign. He referenced a previous court case, stating, “…a charge of ‘deception of marriage’ was taken to court, Hadiza withdrew the case, tendered an apology, and the matter was struck out.”
Furthermore, the lawyer alleged that Hadiza’s father had written to the police to withdraw all previous allegations, admitting that a man named Saidu Mohammed Mainasara was the mastermind behind the blackmail.
The legal team accused Hadiza of making outrageous financial demands as a condition for her silence, including a request for N850 million as a “one-off settlement,” N47 million for rent arrears, and a luxury house in an upscale Abuja neighborhood.
Ibrahim characterized the online campaign as “nothing more than a desperate attempt to extort money from our client after failing through all legal and fraudulent channels.”
He urged the public and the media to disregard the viral allegations, asserting that the truth was documented and that the courts had already spoken on the matter.
