In a move set to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has officially declared his candidacy for the presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Nwajiuba, a two-term member of the House of Representatives and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), announced his bid in a statement issued on Monday, positioning himself as a candidate of experience and practical governance.
In his declaration, he emphasised that Nigeriaโs current challenges demand leadership rooted in clear policies, effective negotiation, and strong grassroots mobilization rather than political rhetoric.
His campaign is expected to focus on three core pillars: comprehensive education reform, economic stabilization, and the restoration of public trust in government institutions.
As a lawyer called to the Bar in 1989 and a veteran of both legislative and executive arms of government, Nwajiuba aims to center his bid on what he terms a โcompetence-firstโ approach to governance, highlighting his extensive background in public finance and institutional administration.
His entry into the race under the ADC banner introduces a significant alternative to the dominant political parties and reflects growing efforts by smaller parties to present credible options to the electorate.
Nwajiuba now joins an expanding field of aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections, where discussions around experience, policy depth, and inclusive governance are increasingly driving public discourse.
