Gabriel Suswam, a former two-term Governor of Benue State, has hinted at the possibility of quitting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) if the ongoing internal conflicts within the party remain unresolved.
Suswam, who governed under the PDP’s banner, voiced his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership for failing to address the persistent disputes troubling the party.
His remarks came in response to renewed tensions following the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Publicity Secretary.
However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has opposed this decision, criticizing the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for reinstating Anyanwu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NWC accused Damagum of making decisions and remarks that allegedly disregard the party’s established constitutional framework.
This latest dispute has further deepened the PDP’s prolonged crisis, leaving its leaders sharply divided over the challenges facing the party.
Speaking on Channels Televisionโs โPolitics Todayโ on Wednesday, Suswam said heโs tired of the lingering crisis in the party.
Asked if he plans to leave the PDP, he said, โThereโs a possibility that I will.โ
He added that he could move to any alternative party, including the Labour Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Kwankwaso is a colleague and a friend. So, there are lots of alternatives.
There is a possibility that I will; there are so many alternatives. There is Labour Party, thereโs Alliance for Democracy, thereโs NNPP by Kwankwaso.
Asked if he could join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Suswam said he does not rule out the ruling party, saying โAPC can be an alternative.โ
