The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to former governor Nasir El-Rufai over what it described as “deliberate attempts to infiltrate and destabilise the party in the state.”
The party leadership accused El-Rufai of orchestrating moves to hijack the partyโs structure through what it called “subversive alliances” and “illegitimate political manoeuvres,” despite not being a registered member at the ward levelโa constitutional prerequisite for membership.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, ADC representative Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha stated: โLet it be clearly understood that the Kaduna State Chapter of the ADC will not be a willing tool in the hands of any individual, nor will we be beholden to interests that seek to undermine our collective vision.โ
The party alleged that El-Rufai, in collaboration with remnants of his former Social Democratic Party (SDP) allies, had been working to create a faction within the ADC, aiming to convert it into a personal political platform. Mustapha declared: โThis is not only unacceptable, but a direct threat to the unity, discipline, and democratic values that define the ADC.โ
While affirming the ADCโs openness to genuine members, Mustapha condemned actions resembling โthe destructive tendencies of the old parties that have stalled Nigeriaโs progress.โ He reiterated the partyโs loyalty to its principles and support for National Chairman Senator David Mark, emphasising its commitment to a โprogressive and people-oriented alternative.โ
The ADCโs warning concluded with: โWe call on Nasir El-Rufai to respect the democratic ideals of our party, allow due process to prevail, and cease all disruptive activities.โ The party stated its focus remains on mobilising Nigerians toward a โjust, democratic, and prosperous nation.โ
