The police on Tuesday charged a 26-year-old driver, Mukari Musa, before a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s property.
Musa, who resides at Idu Industrial Layout Winner Village, is standing trial on charges bordering on theft by servant.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that a complainant, one Mrs Habibat Wada, of opposite Mosque Fafu Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station on June 6.
Ms Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant was employed by the complainant as a driver sometime in April 2025.
She alleged that subsequently, the complainant noticed that her rug carpet worth N13 million was missing.
According to her, during police investigation, there was a call from the defendant to one Mama Mariam to whom he had planned selling the carpet.
She told the court that the carpet was consequently discovered.
The Magistrate, Ramlatu Yusuf, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must provide reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the matter until July 28, for hearing.
