Police have launched an investigation after a man was discovered dead inside a car at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
The unidentified body was found on Sunday in a red Peugeot 406 parked near the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Authorities believe the deceased was a construction labourer working on the premises. The FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident.
“On September 7, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, the FCT Police Command received a distress call reporting the discovery of an unidentified male, suspected to be a labourer, found lifeless at a construction site within the National Assembly Complex,” Ms Adeh said.
She added that officers attached to the National Assembly Division swiftly responded to the distress call and, upon arrival, evacuated the corpse to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The statement further disclosed that the FCT Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation to determine the cause of death and to identify the deceased.
“The command assures the public of its commitment to unravel the circumstances surrounding this incident. Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress,” Ms Adeh noted.
The corpse has since been deposited in the mortuary pending identification by family members.
