An FCT Magistrate Court has remanded eight defendants in connection with the alleged burglary and theft at the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja.
The accused – seven male and one female defendants – were ordered to be detained at correctional facilities in Keffi, Kuje, and Suleja pending further judicial proceedings.
The prosecution alleges that on July 28, the SDP headquarters was unlawfully entered by persons believed to be acting at the behest of undisclosed political actors. Court documents indicate the perpetrators allegedly removed sensitive materials including:
- Official administrative records
- Financial documents and payment vouchers
- Party seals and stamps
- Banking records
- Various office equipment
The defendants were apprehended by FCT Police Command investigators and held for questioning at the Criminal Investigation Department before being formally charged before Magistrate Courts in Kuje and Karu on July 29 and 31 respectively.
The charged individuals include:
- Ambo Ekpenyong
- Humphrey Onwukaeze
- Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry
- Chief Solsuema Osaro
- Nurudeen Bissallah
- Dogara Abubakar
- Adamu Abubakar Modibbo
- Judith Isreal Shuaibu
According to SDP National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, prosecutors presented material evidence recovered from the suspects during arraignment proceedings.
The party further claims that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai unsuccessfully attempted to secure the defendants’ release on bail.
โAll the eight invaders were detained in police custody and charged to court on Tuesday and Thursday, July 29 and 31, respectively. The materials recovered from them were tendered in court by the police prosecution team,โ Aiyenigba said.
The case is expected to resume soon as the courts set dates for full hearings.
