Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappe is €61 million richer after a Paris labour court ruled that his former club, Paris Saint-Germain must pay him the sum in unpaid salaries, bonuses, and accrued vacation pay.
The judgement brings a partial end to one of the most acrimonious disputes in French football.
Tuesday’s decision by the Conseil de prud’hommes resulted from withheld payments for the final months of Mbappé’s contract in 2024, before he departed the French capital club on a free transfer to Madrid.
Mbappé’s lawyers claimed PSG owed him more than 260 million euros (app. $305 million) in the highly contentious dispute.
Reports from French media outlet Le Parisien indicated the court ordered PSG to pay €55 million in outstanding wages and bonuses, plus additional amounts for vacation pay, bringing the total to approximately €61 million.
The judges rejected PSG’s counterclaims, which sought up to €440 million in damages, alleging Mbappe had breached an alleged verbal agreement from August 2023 and caused financial harm by leaving without a transfer fee.
The court said it found no evidence of a written waiver by Mbappe for the owed amounts and dismissed the club’s arguments in full.
France 24 reports that the decision can be appealed and is unlikely to end the dispute.
