The daughter of a landlord whose house was rented by Charles Oputa (Charly Boy)- on a street he later named after himself, has accused the controversial musician of occupying her mother’s Lagos apartment for 16 years while allegedly failing to pay rent for 12 of those years.
The claims were shared by a social media influencer, Sunday Wale Adeniran on Saturday after receiving a message from the woman, who has not yet been publicly identified.
“The house Charley Boy rented that made him name the bus stop after himself was my mumโs. A retired civil servant,” the message began.
It explained that the property was rented by Charly Boy’s late father, “Justice Oputa who came with my father’s cousin, Justice Eso to rent the house on behalf of his son coming from the US. (Before people wonder why anyone would rent a house to someone who looked like that in the first place).”
The daughter alleged: “He lived there for 16 years. Paid rent for only 4. The first 3 years and the 4th in like the 7th year when she threatened to bring the case to the Justice Oputa truth and reconciliation commission. Justice Oputa paid it promising more that never came.”
Legal action reportedly followed, but enforcement failed. “They were in court for many years. She got judgement but the bailiffs refused to execute due to fear. No police would assist as well.
“It was a nightmare for her until God Himself removed him.(story for another day). Suffice to say, he never paid a dime extra and practically destroyed the house. He is a wicked and merciless man who made my mum suffer”, she said.
Spear News reports that the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) recently announced the renaming of several streets within the council and inaugurated community-focused projects.
The LCDA Chairman, Kolade Alabi, announced that Ajidagan Street has been renamed Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, and the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop was named Olamide Baddo Bus Stop.
He renamed Ifeanyi Street to Abolore Akande (9ice) Street and Ayodele Street in the Ladi-Lak area to Tony Tetuila Street.
Charles Oputa in his reaction to the local authoritiesโ decision to rename the Charly Boy bus accused the Lagos State Government of giving in to fear.
In a post on his Instagram page, the actor and singer told the authorities that the bus stop carries a legacy.
He wrote: โYou can rename a place, but you canโt rename a legacy. You can replace the signboard, but you canโt erase the spirit. And you definitely canโt silence a voice that shook your tables for decades!
โThis is not just about a bus stop. This is about fear. Fear of a boy who refused to bow. Fear of a man who challenged the oppressors. Fear of a man who didnโt beg the system to be accepted.โ
