In a move set to reshape the political landscape in North-Central Nigeria, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has formally resigned his membership from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The resignation was communicated via a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed directly to the Chairman of his Ampang West Ward in the Mangu Local Government Area, signalling an immediate end to his affiliation with the party.

In the detailed letter obtained by Spear News, Governor Mutfwang framed his departure as a difficult but necessary step driven by ideological and practical considerations. He pointed to a need for a more coherent political direction as his primary motive.
“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” Mutfwang wrote.
Despite the pointed reason for leaving, the Governor’s letter struck a conciliatory and grateful tone towards his former party. He acknowledged the PDP’s role in his political journey and the support he received from its ranks.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” he stated. “I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
