An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos State, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of disruptive conduct and assault during an Ibom Air flight.
Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami dismissed the case after police prosecutors withdrew the five charges brought against her.
The decision follows an intervention by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who announced the resolution after discussions with aviation stakeholders.
Keyamo stated that the outcome was reached after reviewing the incident, considering appeals from concerned parties, and acknowledging the remorse expressed by those involved.
Ibom Air subsequently agreed to drop its complaint against Ms Emmanson, who had been detained over the altercation on 10 August.
The defendant, initially arraigned on Monday, had been remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet her bail conditions of N500,000 with two sureties.
At Wednesday’s hearing, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments leading to the case’s withdrawal. The court approved the application, bringing the matter to a close.
