Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of five officers following an ambush by bandits in Darazo Local Government Area on Saturday.
The attack occurred in Sabon Sara village where a tactical police team was on a visibility patrol mission to prevent farmer-herder conflicts in the area.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, the ambush resulted in five officers paying the supreme price while two others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The fallen officers include DSP Ahmad Muhammad of the State Intelligence Department, ASP Mustapha Muhammad of 10 PMF, Inspector Amarhel Yunusa of 10 PMF, Inspector Idris Ahmed of 10 PMF, and Corporal Isah Muazu of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The injured officers, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo, both from the State Intelligence Department, have been evacuated to Darazo General Hospital for medical treatment.
Wakil stated that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a reinforcement team to the scene, rescued the injured, and evacuated all affected personnel.
The police spokesperson confirmed that security forces neutralized a number of bandits during the exchange, though he did not specify the exact count.
“Intense efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators within and around the area,” Wakil added, assuring that “the Command is fully committed to ensuring that the criminals responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.”
