The Federal Government has rolled out plans that will see Nigerians buy petrol at cheaper prices, with a discount set to take effect at NNPC filling stations nationwide.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
He said, “There’ll be a discount on NNPC petrol for the next 30 days, with priority for public transporters,” adding that the Federal Government will also operate a “negotiated landing cost which will be reviewed monthly”.
The move is expected to bring relief to millions of Nigerians battling high transportation and energy costs, with public transport operators — and by extension commuters — positioned as the primary beneficiaries of the 30-day window.
Under the arrangement, the discount will apply specifically to petrol sold at NNPC retail stations, while the negotiated landing cost framework signals a shift toward a more structured, month-by-month approach to pricing.
