In a significant legal setback for former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has dismissed his application for bail and validated his ongoing detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Presiding Judge, Justice Babangida Hassan, delivered the ruling on Thursday, stating that Malamiโs remand was “lawful and backed by a valid court order.” The decision reinforces the EFCC’s authority to hold the former minister as it continues its investigation.
Malami, who served as Nigeriaโs chief law officer, had sought relief from the court to be released from EFCC custody. His legal team had argued for his bail, a request that has now been firmly rejected.
The ruling implies that Malami will remain in EFCC detention for the foreseeable future, pending the next stages of the legal process or a potential fresh application.
