Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have apprehended a suspected kidnapper, Umar Musa Geyi, while he was allegedly negotiating a N20 million ransom for an abducted victim.
The arrest was executed on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in the JandeiโKulamu area of Wukari Local Government, Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta, intercepted the suspect during a phone conversation.
According to Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, the Army spokesperson, Geyi was a known individual on the wanted list of security agencies, believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing the Wukari axis.
Preliminary investigations have linked him to the abduction of a local Fulani resident, Alhaji Jano, who was kidnapped on November 13, 2025.
โThe suspect was intercepted during a phone conversation where he allegedly confirmed that the victim was still in captivity and demanded a N20 million ransom for his release,โ Mohammed stated. He added that the victim remains in captivity, and efforts to secure his freedom are ongoing.
The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing further interrogation to glean information that will aid in locating the victim and dismantling the criminal network.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and reiterated the Brigadeโs unwavering commitment to rooting out criminal elements and restoring safety across Taraba State.
