The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced the release of 38 individuals who were abducted from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Sunday, the governor credited their freedom to the direct and “hands-on” intervention of President Bola Tinubu.
The abduction, which occurred recently, had sparked widespread concern. Governor AbdulRazaq stated that the victims were freed on Saturday, November 23, following “many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives.”
“The Governor says this is wholly due to the hands-on approach of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, who has personally led the efforts to free the abductees,” the official statement read.
It detailed the President’s decisive steps, including calling off his scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to address security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States. President Tinubu also “directed heightened security deployments to Kwara,” a move the governor said underlined his “firm commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our people and Nigerians as a whole.”
The governor expressed “immense” gratitude to the President and extended appreciation to the national security apparatus. This included the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police, which has “deployed four new tactical teams to Kwara State on the directive of the President.”
The statement also thanked “members of the security forces across board, thought leaders, religious institutions, and all Kwarans for their support and goodwill since the unfortunate incident.”
