A bill for a law to establish Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency has scaled second reading on the floor of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The bill which was subjected to debate on the floor of the house enjoyed overwhelming support of the members.
The majority leader, Jonathan Ibhamawu who led the debate on the bill said that the bill when passed would open areas for recreational activities and also increase revenue generation in the state.
Also speaking, the Minority leader of the House, Charity Aiguobarueghian who also spoke in support of the bill remarked that it was in tandem with what was obtainable in developed climes.
He further stated that the bill would ensure a healthy environment and check erosion.
The immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House, Maria Edeko was of the view that the passage of the bill would encourage residents to plant trees within their premises which would further translate to good ambience and healthy environment.
The speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, after the bill scaled second reading,, referred it to the committees on Environment and Agriculture for fine-tuning, with a mandate to report back to the House within two weeks.
