Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has issued a public apology to customers in several areas after failing to meet the mandated minimum 20 hour daily power supply standard.
In a service notice dated 7th July 2025, the utility provider acknowledged significant outages across multiple feeders, attributing most disruptions to internal faults.
The worst affected area was Rubber Estate Feeder A, which suffered a 24-hour total blackout, followed by Imoniyame with 13 hours of downtime, leaving residents with just 11 hours of electricity.
Abraka Commercial A recorded 6.93 outage hours, while Cement Factory A experienced 5 hours of interrupted supply. BEDC classified all these incidents as internal faults within their network infrastructure.
“We sincerely regret not meeting the required service levels,” the statement read, confirming the company is implementing corrective measures to stabilise supply.
The notice emphasised BEDC’s commitment to its service level agreements, though no specific timeline was provided for full resolution.
This marks the second major service disruption announcement from the distributor this quarter, raising concerns about infrastructure reliability.
Customers in Delta and neighbouring states have reported increasing frustration, with some businesses citing operational losses due to unpredictable power availability.
The power company has urged affected consumers to channel complaints through official channels, including its customer care line (2347000002332) and dedicated email (customercomplaints@beninelectric.com). BEDC management signed off with assurances of improved service delivery, stating: “We are taking concrete steps to ensure consistent and reliable power supply in the affected areas.”
