Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested two young men suspected of supplying fuel to bandits operating in parts of the state, in what authorities described as a major blow to criminal logistics networks.
The suspects, identified as Ayuba Ahmadu and Danlami Ayuba, both aged 25, were apprehended in Mansur community of Alkaleri Local Government Area while allegedly transporting fuel meant for bandits.
Briefing journalists on Wednesday at the Bauchi State Police Command headquarters, the commandโs spokesperson, SP Nafiโu Habib, said the arrests were made during sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting the supply chains that sustain bandit activities.
According to the police, the suspects were intercepted while riding separate Honda motorcycles, each carrying 280 litres of fuel stored in containers, bringing the total seized to 560 litres.
SP Habib disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the fuel was intended for bandit groups operating in the area, adding that the suspects allegedly confessed to supplying fuel and other logistics to criminal elements.
He noted that the operation reflects the commandโs resolve to dismantle all support networks aiding banditry and other violent crimes in the state.
The police assured that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other collaborators, warning that anyone found aiding or abetting criminal activities would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
