The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement campaign against unregistered vehicles and the use of concealed, obscured or fake number plates, deploying mobile courts to ensure swift prosecution of offenders.
The exercise, which is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is aimed at enhancing road safety and strengthening security across the state.
The Command disclosed that, in collaboration with the state judiciary, mobile courts have been stationed at the five Area Command headquarters and other strategic locations within Bauchi metropolis.
The courts have already begun trying motorists found operating vehicles without proper registration or using covered, altered or unauthorized number plates.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles pose serious security threats, noting that such vehicles are frequently used by criminal elements to perpetrate offences.
