Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has formally declared his intention to contest for the Bauchi South Senatorial seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the party as a new vehicle for sustaining his administration’s development agenda in the state.
Speaking during the declaration ceremony held on Thursday in Bauchi, the governor also presented Dr. Yakubu Adamu as the governorship candidate of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed said the event symbolised not only the formal presentation of candidates but also the resilience of his political movement despite recent challenges encountered within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he accused of being plagued by internal crises.
According to him, the decision to leave the PDP became necessary in order to continue pursuing what he described as a vision for sustainable development, economic growth, and improved wellbeing for the people of Bauchi State.
The governor said his administration’s “My Bauchi Project” development blueprint had laid the foundation for the Bauchi State Perspective Development Plan 2033, developed with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
He noted that the long-term plan focuses on key sectors of the state’s economy and aims to harness Bauchi’s economic potentials through innovation, investment, and international cooperation.
Mohammed maintained that his political movement remained committed to the interests of the people and warned against a return to what he termed an era of failed governance, unnecessary verification exercises for civil servants, disregard for traditional institutions, and mismanagement of public resources.
“We are not going back to that era,” he declared, while urging party members to remain united and avoid bitterness following the completion of the party’s congresses and primaries.
The governor thanked the leadership and members of the APM for accepting his supporters into the party, as well as members in Bauchi South Senatorial District for unanimously endorsing his senatorial ambition.
Presenting the party’s governorship candidate, Mohammed described Dr. Yakubu Adamu as a competent leader with the experience and vision required to continue the state’s development agenda.
He also called on the people of the state to elect capable legislators at both the state and federal levels who would effectively represent Bauchi’s interests and provide the legislative support needed for sustained development.
Mohammed assured residents that the APM campaign for the 2027 elections would remain peaceful, inclusive, and issue-based.
