The Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, married Jennifer Douglas from the Southeast on the promise of making her First Lady, and divorced her after losing the 2023 presidential election.
Oshiomhole made the allegation on Monday while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
Narrating the sequence of events as he claimed them, the former Edo State governor said Atiku had visited the Southeast during his campaign and told the people there that their daughter would become First Lady if he won. According to Oshiomhole, that was when he married Jennifer.
“Like somebody said the other day that Atiku went to the Southeast and said, ‘If I win election, your daughter would be the First Lady,’ that was when he married Jennifer,” he said.
He further alleged that Atiku set up a foundation for her, but after losing the election, he divorced her and took her to court.
“Because he likes abusing our president, so we must reply: he married Jennifer, set up a foundation for her and at the end of the day, he lost the election, and he went ahead and divorced her; he took her to court. Is that not true? We must have the courage to mention their names if they have no respect for mentioning our leader’s name,” Oshiomhole added.
The senator also used the occasion to warn the former vice president against disrespecting the President, saying the ruling party would not sit back while its leader is maligned.
The rally in Calabar was not short on political messaging, as Vice President Kashim Shettima also addressed the crowd, urging Cross River residents to vote for Tinubu again and promising that the state would get more projects in return.
As of the time of filing this report, Atiku’s camp had not issued any response to Oshiomhole’s claims, which have already begun generating conversation online given their personal nature.
