In a major escalation of operations, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have delivered a decisive blow to criminal elements in Taraba State, destroying multiple bandit camps, neutralising fighters, and recovering a cache of weapons in a series of coordinated offensives.
The sustained operations, conducted under Operation Whirl Stroke, saw soldiers launch a deliberate clearance mission on December 2nd across Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua villages in Takum Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops targeted mountainous hideouts within the Tor-Tser general area, long considered safe havens by armed groups.
Upon the soldiers’ advance, the bandits fled deeper into the rugged terrain, abandoning their camps.
The troops subsequently conducted a detailed search and destroyed the hideouts, disproving the criminals’ claims that the locations were inaccessible to security forces.
In a desperate attempt to hinder the advance, fleeing bandits set a wooden bridge ablaze in Tyozua. Undeterred, the troops pressed forward, forcing the criminals across the power line into neighbouring Benue State. One suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested during the operation and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
In a related engagement on December 4th, troops on a fighting patrol in the Karim Lamido area came under fire from armed bandits concealed near Wudompi Community. The soldiers swiftly returned fire, repelling the attack and neutralising two of the assailants. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition. The attackers are believed to be members of the Karimjo faction attempting to regroup in the area. No casualties were recorded on the side of the troops.
Reacting to the successes, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and gallantry.
He stated that the operations demonstrate that “no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal enclave is beyond reach.”
General Uwa assured residents of Taraba State that the Brigade remains unwavering in its resolve to pursue criminals and sustain pressure until all threats to peace in the region are eliminated. Security in the affected areas remains calm, with troops maintaining a heightened state of alert.
