President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday receive the All Progressives Congress (APC) certificate of return and party flag as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, following his landslide victory in Saturday’s nationwide primary.
The Presidential Primary Elections Committee will present the certificate and flag at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja after the collation of results from across the federation.
Saturday’s presidential primary saw President Tinubu secure a commanding victory, polling a total of 9,843,207 votes, representing 99.8 percent of the valid votes cast.
His sole opponent, Mr. Stanley Osifo, received 17,623 votes. Key state results include Lagos State where Tinubu polled 1,204,562 votes against Osifo’s 2,103; Kano State where Tinubu secured 1,102,347 votes against Osifo’s 1,892; Rivers State where Tinubu polled 487,221 votes against Osifo’s 863; Kaduna State where Tinubu recorded 612,448 votes against Osifo’s 1,245; and Borno State where Tinubu secured 498,763 votes against Osifo’s 521.
Voter turnout across the primary was estimated at 67 percent of registered APC members nationwide.
Sunday’s ceremony will be attended by APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and the National Assembly, along with party stalwarts. APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje is expected to preside over the ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the primary outcome as a testament to the President’s leadership and the party’s confidence in his vision for a second term.
Mr. Stanley Osifo, the only other candidate who purchased the nomination form, has yet to issue an official statement on the outcome, though his campaign manager said on Saturday night that they were reviewing the process.
The APC primary is part of the party’s build-up to the 2027 general elections scheduled for February 2027.
