A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, says the achievements of President Bola Tinubu has improved the party’s chances in the August 8 governorship election in the state.
Mr Oyintiloye also said the performance of APC governors and the achievements of the party’s past administration in the state would also play key roles in securing its victory.
The chieftain, who said this while speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital, noted that Mr Tinubu made the APC attractive to politicians in other parties, prompting them to align with the ruling party.
He added that the recent defection of five Osun federal lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties into the APC fold was another boon.
“The defection of the five PDP National Assembly lawmakers and the endorsement of the president for a second term are indications of assured victory for the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
“It also indicated that the people of this state love APC and are ready to return it to office in the August 8 governorship election.
“The people of the state are yearning for the return of good governance through APC, and by August 8, their wishes will be fulfilled.
“Oyebamiji, is competent, reliable and a promise keeper. He will fulfil all his electoral promises for the good of the people. We are confident of winning,” he said.
Mr Oyintiloye also said the party’s leader in the state, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, was working assiduously with other leaders to sustain the party’s structure, despite not being in government.
According to him, Mr Oyetola, in collaboration with other stakeholders, has made APC a haven for notable opposition figures through a well-structured framework which accommodates new members without alienating existing ones.
“Residents of the state should ignore the campaign of calumny targeted at the APC by other parties in the race.
“Rather than engaging in buck-passing, Oyebamiji and other leaders of our party are working hard to rescue Osun and redirect the state to the path of sustainable growth,” the chieftain said.
He encouraged opposition members willing to join APC to take a cue from the five Osun National Assembly members who recently defected.
According to him, the APC has a culture of excellence and the capacity to accommodate all who are willing to join forces with it in the public interest.
