The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as unfounded fabrications, asserting that the opposition party’s allegations merely highlight its deepening internal turmoil.
The ADC had alleged in a July 7 statement that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was plotting to destabilise it through clandestine meetings with its officials.
In a strong rebuttal issued on Tuesday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the ADC’s claims as “poorly imagined accusations” lacking any substantiation. “Beyond the rash of poorly imagined accusations, the statement did not offer substantiation of any kind,” Morka stated, noting the ADC’s vague reference to “officials of federal government” as evidence of its “mischievous intent to whip up sentiments.”
The APC challenged the ADC to provide concrete details about the alleged “secret meeting” where its officials were supposedly “coerced and intimidated.” Morka questioned: “Why is it so impossible for ADC to provide Nigerians the details of the alleged ‘secret meeting’ at which its senior party officers were ‘coerced and intimidated’?” He dismissed the ADC’s reliance on “nonsensical ‘credible intelligence'” as the basis for what he called “devious allegations.”
“Clearly, there was no such meeting, and certainly, no one could have been coerced or intimidated at a meeting that never was,” Morka asserted, suggesting the claims existed only “in the warped imagination of masters of deception and marauding invaders of the ADC.”
The APC spokesman painted a picture of an opposition party in complete disarray, stating the ADC “needs no help from our great Party to unravel as it must from its own internal dissonance.” He accused the party of suffering from “contradictions and discord of self-serving and vainglorious personalities that executed a gestapo-like takeover of the party.”
Morka likened the ADC’s situation to “Humpty Dumpty whose great fall could not be put back together again,” arguing the party had publicly displayed “the incompetence and inability of its leadership to manage its impending internal crisis.” He reminded Nigerians that these were the same leaders who “proved incapable of managing the internal affairs of opposition parties they have plundered serially before the ADC.”
The statement took aim at the ADC’s composition, describing it as “a coalition of our country’s most inept politicians and architects of misrule, corruption, poverty and underdevelopment.” Morka questioned: “What else can be expected from a coalition of failed and restless presidential contenders determined to bring down the roof on the altar of their inordinate ambitions?”
The APC accused the ADC of lacking substantive policy alternatives, saying it had “failed to articulate any alternative vision of governance and development for Nigeria beyond the sound and fury of grudge, vendetta, inordinate presidential ambitions of its leaders.” According to Morka, their strategy simply involved “vilifying our great party and attacking President Tinubu’s incomparable and unassailable record of economic reconstruction.”
The statement contained particularly sharp criticism of several opposition figures associated with the ADC, including Peter Obi’s “desperate vow to serve a single term,” which contrasted with his “campaign with steeze and opulence in private jets.” It also highlighted Nasir El-Rufai’s “failed spectacularly” governance compared to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s achievements, and former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika’s “invidious scandals” versus current minister Festus Keyamo’s reforms.
While acknowledging the ADC might believe it could “lie their way to presidential victory,” Morka reminded them they would have to contend with “a highly intelligent and discerning Nigerian electorate.” He maintained that none of the ADC’s proponents possessed “the vision, the courage, competence, credibility, track record, zeal and patriotism to serve Nigeria better than President Bola Tinubu is already doing.”
Concluding the statement, Morka emphasised that while “the opposition wallows in self-inflicted confusion, the Tinubu-administration and our great Party remain undistracted and will continue to build a virile and vibrant country for this and future generations of Nigerians.”
