The factional body of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has petitioned Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, alleging a violent invasion of its Abuja national secretariat by suspended officials backed by the FCT Minister and police.
In a formal petition seen by SPEAR NEWS, the party detailed how on Monday, 3rd November 2025, “the suspended National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu violently invaded the National Secretariat” with “thugs mobilised by his Personal Aides.”
The PDP stated these individuals were “brandishing dangerous weapons including guns, knives, cutlasses and sticks with which they broke into offices, unleashed violence, attacked, fired tear gas, wounded our staff, assaulted journalists and disrupted activities.”
The party reported serious injuries, noting “a female staff who could not withstand the teargas suffocated and was later resuscitated.” It confirmed that “currently, three of the staff are in the hospital receiving treatments for various degrees of injuries,” naming Mr. Terna Tergba, Mrs. Cecilia Ukwayi and Innocent Ezekiel.
The petition accused the thugs of attempting to “forcibly install the said Abdulrahman Mohammed as the acting National Chairman of our Party.” It further alleged that the armed group, “in company of armed police officers,” assaulted people in the building while “openly threatened to kill some members of our NWC and staff.”
A key allegation involves FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The PDP claimed the thugs were “boasting that they have the backing of the FCT Minister and that the Police and Security Agencies cannot do anything to them.”
The role of the police was called into question, with the party stating, “The failure of the Police to take immediate action to disperse the thugs lend credence to this report.” It reported that “staff reported hearing Senator Anyanwu speaking to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command assuring his aides that the CP and the FCT Minister are with them.”
The petition continues: “On whose instruction did he as an officer of the Law deploy security personnel to the National Secretariat of a political party without notifying the National Chairman of the Party?” and “Why on earth will the police teargas staff who are performing their legitimate duties in the office?”
Describing the incident’s broader implications, the PDP warned that “this unwarranted assault on the opposition party along with its staff… is a clear threat to democracy in Nigeria” that “further aggravate a very tensed situation.”
The party concluded by requesting the IG ensure the “FCT Minister, FCT Police Commissioner, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed [are] directly responsible and culpable for this breach of peace in the FCT, threat to life, assault on innocent citizens, and disruption of lawful activities.”
The PDP confirmed it provided “numerous evidence both in Pictures and videos” to support its claims.
