Says only citizens can stop Tinubu in 2027
Former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, revealed yesterday that he nearly left Nigeria but was convinced to stay by his wife, while delivering a strong warning about the 2027 elections at the presentation of the 2025 Nigeria Social Cohesion Survey Report.
“The only way you can stop Tinubu from being president in 2027 is to run an election of Nigerians versus the bandits,” Amaechi declared at the event organized by the Africa Polling Institute in Abuja. “If you think you will just sit down and do that, may God be with you.”
In his most personal comment, Amaechi disclosed: “I told my wife, I want to go to Japa like you people do. They will give me an official visa to come and stay in their country, any country. She said, no, we can’t leave Nigeria. Because Nigeria is lovable. It’s lovely.”
The former Rivers State governor harshly criticised Nigerian citizens for complaining without taking action against the political elite.
“The elites who are stealing Nigerian money are not up to 100,000 but you have 200 million Nigerians who can fight 100,000 men,” he said. “You sit down in your house and complain and grumble.”
Amaechi pointed to other countries where popular protests removed leaders: “Go to Bangladesh⦠They chased her out. Nigeria is the most docile society I’ve seen in my life.”
He lamented the weakening of labor movements: “Now, NLC can’t even mobilize their people. Why? Ethnicity. Nigeria is totally collapsed.”
The former minister made a startling comparison: “We pushed away the military and brought in the politicians. The politicians have shown they are worse than the military.”
Drawing from his experience as governor, Amaechi linked crime to economic policies: “The moment I see robbery, kidnapping, I know that there is no money in society.”
