Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly challenged his political rival, Nyesom Wike, to a popularity contest in Rivers State, declaring, “Let’s walk from Port Harcourt Airport to town and see who’s more popular.”
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, Amaechi, who claimed he mentored Wike in politics, expressed frustration over his protégé’s perceived lack of respect. “I am older than him, and I brought him into politics,” he said.
Beyond the feud, Amaechi shifted focus to Nigeria’s crises, criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s handling of insecurity and economic hardship. “School fees at Baze University were N1million before this government, now look at the cost,” he lamented.
While avoiding a direct declaration of presidential ambition, Amaechi confidently stated, “I can rule Nigeria better than Tinubu. I can’t be president and allow this level of insecurity, framing the 2027 elections as a battle between “Nigerians against Tinubu and the bandits.”
