After weeks of speculation over his health, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, returned to Nigeria in the early hours of Monday.
Akpabio, whose jet touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport about 4.00am, was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides and Nigerians from different walks of life, according to his office.
The official account was that the Senate President was in London on a brief vacation.
But, for many days there were speculations that the former governor of Akwa Ibom State was reportedly hospitalised due to a medical emergency.

Akpabio initially jetted out to attend the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva between July 29 and 31st after which he headed to London for a short vacation.

However, the story that followed his detour to London indicated that it was meant to attend to his ill-health and not a vacation.
Last week, the former Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs posted a photo where he attended the birthday of the wife of the Senator representing Cross River-South, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, as part of efforts to dispel the rumour over his alleged medical emergency.
Fielding questions from journalists on arrival, Akpabio promised Nigerians robust legislative engagements on resumption.

He further justified the presence of a strong Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, assuring the people of more derivatives of democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.
