The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has begun efforts to consolidate his party’s presence in Cross River State.
The former presidential candidate of the party met with key stakeholders in Calabar on Tuesday to map out plans and foster unity within the party’s ranks.
Speaking directly to members, Kwankwaso expressed his gratitude for their support and emphasised the critical need for cohesion. “I thank all the leaders and members of NNPP in Cross River State. I want to use this opportunity to thank you for receiving us. We are so happy with the leadership of the party in the state,” he said. He then issued a clear directive, stating, “I want to encourage you to work hard to ensure unity within the party.”
Kwankwaso stressed that a unified front is non-negotiable for electoral success, both at the state and national level. “Let me thank you for what you did during the last election in 2023. I urge you to work harder so that by the grace of God our party, the NNPP will win election in Cross River and Nigeria,” he added.
He concluded his address by highlighting the importance of the party’s expanding physical presence, saying, “Ensure unity within the party especially now that we have a new big office in Calabar and many local government areas across Cross River state. On behalf of members of my entourage, I want to say thank you and God bless you.”
The state chairman of the party, Barr. Tony Odey, described the visit from the national leader as a significant morale booster for members. Odey also took the opportunity to acknowledge the substantial efforts of the party’s Contact Committee, led by Alhaji Ahmed Bitchi, for providing a new office accommodation and donating an official vehicle. These contributions, he noted, were already “sources of envy to other Political Parties in the State”.
Furthermore, Odey revealed that the state leadership had successfully secured party offices in five local government areas within the Northern Senatorial Zone, with plans underway to paint them in the party’s colours.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the party’s publicity secretary, Odey Nyambi, who assured the national leader that the NNPP was positioned to win Cross State in the 2027 general elections. This meeting marks a deliberate step by the NNPP to build a formidable structure in the southern region ahead of the next poll.
