The African Union (AU) Commission has strongly condemned the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which reportedly claimed 12 lives and injured more than 300 people.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commission attributed the attack, which took place on 10 October 2026, to the Houthis, citing figures provided by Saudi authorities.
The AU Commission expressed its solidarity with the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, extended its condolences to the bereaved families and countries concerned, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Commission underscored that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected in accordance with international law and must never be targeted.
It further called for an immediate cessation of attacks and urgent de-escalation to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and security.
