Rights activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has fired back at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, mocking the ex-Anambra governor’s threat of a defamation suit.
In a demand letter from Obi’s lawyers, Ejesimen & Co. Madiba Chambers, Adeyanju was accused of making repeated “derogatory” remarks against Obi on social media, including claims about alleged misuse of state funds and a private meeting where Obi purportedly attempted to give him money.
“He tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true,” Adeyanju had written in a previous post, insisting the gesture was an attempt to buy his loyalty.
The notice also referenced an August 21 post where Adeyanju accused Obi of investing state funds in a company linked to his family during his tenure as governor.
But reacting in a statement on Wednesday, Adeyanju dismissed Obi’s legal move as laughable, vowing to face him in court. “Just got this letter from Peter Obi, the religious bigot demanding a retraction from me. I laughed so hard. I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah,” Adeyanju wrote.
He also accused Obi of hypocrisy, recalling how the former governor once described activist Omoyele Sowore as “a blackmailer-in-chief.”
Adeyanju further disclosed that his own lawyers had served a demand notice to Obi’s female supporter, Serah Ibrahim, over alleged defamatory comments about his wife. “This same guy called the great Sowore a blackmailer-in-chief. We served his little errand girl Serah a letter to retract all her defamatory publications on Monday against my wife & she ran to the leader of the mob for help. Can’t wait to meet him in court,” he added.
