The African Democratic Congress has launched a sharp critique against President Bola Tinubu, labeling his recent trip to Europe as “insensitive” and “alarming” while the nation grapples with escalating security concerns.
The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, voiced the criticism in a statement titled ‘PBAT’s lack of care scary,’ released on Sunday on his X account.
The criticism follows the President’s departure for Europe, which official statements say is an end-of-year break preceding his participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit.
Abdullahi argued the timing of the trip is deeply troubling, coming in the wake of a deadly bomb blast in Zamfara State and heightened public anxiety following a U.S. military strike on Nigerian soil. He emphasised that citizens are awaiting presidential reassurance.
“In the wake of yet another deadly bomb blast in Zamfara, to which the President has not said a single word… with a confused and scared nation waiting for the President to speak to us… the next thing we hear is that the President has gone on holiday. What a President,” the statement read.
The ADC spokesperson stressed that the President’s silence on critical issues, combined with his absence, raises serious questions about leadership responsiveness during a period of national distress.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga had stated that Tinubu is scheduled to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit in early January, following an invitation from the UAE President. The summit aims to gather global leaders to discuss climate action and sustainable development.
