President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo State following the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the former governor of the old Oyo State.
On behalf of the Federal Government, President Tinubu also expressed his deepest sympathies to the Olunloyo family and all who had the privilege of knowing and admiring the late elder statesman and renowned scholar.
Dr. Olunloyo, celebrated for his exceptional mathematical intellect, earned a PhD in applied mathematics and number theory from St. Andrews University in Scotland at the age of 25.
By 1962, at just 27, he was appointed as a commissioner in the old Western Region, and he held multiple commissioner roles as the region evolved into the Western State.
As the founding rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan and Kwara State Polytechnic, Dr. Olunloyo laid the academic and administrative foundations that continue to benefit these institutions to this day.
President Tinubu praised Dr. Olunloyo for his outstanding academic and professional achievements, as well as his unwavering belief in education as a powerful catalyst for national development.
“Dr. Olunloyo’s brilliance in applied mathematics and number theory will be celebrated within academic circles for generations to come. His legacy as an educator has left an indelible mark on countless students and fortified the foundation of educational institutions,” President Tinubu remarked.
Reflecting on Dr. Olunloyo’s tenure as governor, President Tinubu noted: “Although his time in office was short-lived, his leadership was characterised by exceptional vision and foresight. Even though his administration was cut short by military intervention, his commitment to public service never wavered.”
The President further honoured Dr. Olunloyo’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity, progress, and intellectual growth, emphasising that his legacy will remain a permanent milestone in the nation’s history. Beauty products
