The National Central Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to deliver a landmark convention that will establish a template for all future gatherings of the party.
Chairman of the committee and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, gave the assurance on Friday during the committee’s inaugural meeting held at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
Declaring the meeting open, Masari said the committee was determined to meet the expectations of party members, Nigerians, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The expectation of Nigerians, the people and the President is that we produce the best convention ever,” Masari said.
“We are also expected to establish a template for future APC conventions, and with the calibre of individuals on this committee, that expectation is almost assured,” he added.
The former Katsina State governor pledged that the committee would operate with fairness, transparency and objectivity throughout the convention planning process.
He emphasised that these principles were essential to ensuring the party emerges stronger and more united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Masari added that the committee would work closely with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other relevant organs to ensure a successful convention.
Among those present at the inaugural meeting were the committee’s deputy chairman, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and the secretary who is also Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, and Hadiza Bala Dikko were also in attendance.
Other members of the committee joined the meeting to commence preparations for the national convention.
The committee’s composition reflects a mix of experienced politicians and party stalwarts tasked with organising the crucial gathering.
The APC national convention is expected to shape the party’s direction and internal democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
