In a well coordinated counter-operation, a strike team from the 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West (Operation Hadarin Daji) has neutralized eleven bandits and recovered a significant cache of arms.
The operation successfully disrupted a planned terrorist attack on a vulnerable community.
Acting on precise intelligence, the troops executed a well-coordinated ambush on Friday near Kurawa Village in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area. The location is a known corridor for the cross-movement of terrorist and bandit elements.
Military sources confirm that the ambush triggered an intense firefight, resulting in the death of eleven bandits. Several others were seen fleeing the scene with gunshot wounds. There were no casualties reported among the troops.
The operation yielded a substantial recovery of weaponry, including:
8 AK-47 rifles, 5 extra magazines and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
The targeted bandits were reportedly en route to launch an attack on Tara Village when they were intercepted. This proactive strike not only prevented imminent violence but also dealt a significant blow to the criminal network operating in the Sabon Birni corridor, an area recently plagued by instability.
The General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the troops for their professionalism, swift response, and unwavering commitment.
He reiterated the Division’s resolve to relentlessly pursue all criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of citizens in Sokoto State and the wider North-West region.
