Governor Bala Mohammed has directed all political appointees in Bauchi State who intend to contest in upcoming elections to step down from their positions on or before Friday, April 24, 2026.
The directive was communicated through an official statement issued by the Government House and signed by the Governorโs Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
According to the statement, the order specifically targets appointees preparing to participate in party primary elections but who have yet to resign from their current roles.
The move, the government explained, is to ensure strict adherence to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which prohibits political office holders from contesting elections without first relinquishing their appointments.
The state government noted that the decision is part of efforts to maintain transparency and uphold legal standards in the electoral process.
Affected officials have been instructed to formally submit their resignation letters before the deadline, hand over all government property, and transfer their responsibilities to designated officers within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
While appreciating the contributions of the appointees to the development of the state, the government wished them success in their political aspirations.
The directive comes amid growing political activity in the state as preparations for party primaries gather momentum.
