President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed his Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, while warning all remaining cabinet members that more changes are on the way.
In a memo issued late Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the President approved what was described as a “minor cabinet reshuffle” but immediately made clear that no minister’s position is safe.
Senator George Akume, quoting the President, said “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
The shake-up comes as Tinubu faces mounting pressure to ease the worsening cost-of-living crisis across the country. With inflation remaining stubbornly high and fuel prices still biting hard, the President is not taking any chances on underperformance ahead of the 2027 elections.
Mr Wale Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who was previously Minister of State in the same ministry.
Edun’s exit has been widely linked to health challenges, as the 70-year-old economist was flown abroad for treatment in October 2025.
In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has also been removed and ordered to hand over to the Minister of State. Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the new ministerial nominee for the portfolio.
Sources within the Presidency indicated that Tinubu was dissatisfied with Dangiwa’s delivery on the President’s housing programme.
The President thanked the outgoing ministers for their service but made no promises of stability for those remaining.
According to the SGF’s office, the changes are aimed at “strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians.”
For the remaining members of the Federal Executive Council, the message is clear: perform or be shown the door.
