President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor shake-up of his cabinet, removing the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
In their place, the President has elevated Taiwo Oyedele, who was previously Minister of State in the finance ministry, to take over as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy. Meanwhile, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as a ministerial nominee to take charge of the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
The changes were announced in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on Tuesday. According to the memo, Edun and Dangiwa have been directed to begin the handover process immediately.
Oyedele will now step into Edun’s shoes, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the housing ministry.
All handover formalities are expected to be completed by the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April 2026.
Explaining the decision, Akume said the move is aimed at strengthening coordination within the government and improving the delivery of economic results under the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” the statement read.
The SGF noted that the President acted within his constitutional powers as outlined in Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution.
President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours. He also assured remaining cabinet members that the process of reinvigorating the cabinet will be ongoing.
