Kaduna State Government has said it is one of the first in the country to fully implement the new N72,000 minimum wage, alongside incremental adjustments based on grade levels, in compliance with federal directives.
The Office of the Accountant General confirmed the successful rollout across all cadres in the state’s payroll, assuring workers of its commitment to transparency and fairness.
In a public notice issued on Friday by the office of the Accountant General of the State, the office strongly refuted claims of non-compliance, describing such allegations as “entirely false and misleading.”
The clarification followed allegations that the state was paying below N72, 000 minimum wage as said to have approved.
However, it clarified that in instances where an employee’s net salary fell below the stipulated minimum wage, the discrepancy was solely due to voluntary deductions such as pre-approved loan repayments.
“Detailed records of these deductions are maintained and can be verified,” the statement emphasised.
The state government also revealed that it was still in active discussions with Labour Unions, which have submitted additional recommendations for consideration.
While acknowledging the proposals, the statement noted that Governor Uba Sani, widely regarded as labour-friendly, was reviewing the suggestions at his discretion.
Reaffirming its dedication to equitable pay structures, the Office of the Accountant General urged workers with further inquiries to seek clarification directly through its channels.
