President Bola Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Nigerian Muslims and the global Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, calling for reflection on the festival’s core values of sacrifice, compassion, and devotion. In a nationwide address on Thursday, the President emphasized the importance of unity and perseverance as Nigeria navigates economic reforms and recovers from recent tragedies.
President Tinubu highlighted the spiritual significance of Eid-el-Kabir, urging Nigerians to emulate the obedience and selflessness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). “This sacred occasion reminds us of our duty not only to our faith but also to our nation,” he said. “Let us embody resilience, tolerance, and dedication to Nigeria’s progress.”
The President acknowledged the hardships faced by citizens due to his administration’s bold economic reforms but assured Nigerians that “the toughest days are behind us.” He pointed to improving economic indicators as evidence that the country is “approaching a brighter horizon” under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also addressed the devastating floods that submerged Mokwa, Niger State, on May 28, which claimed lives and displaced hundreds. Describing the incident as a “humanitarian crisis,” he called for national solidarity. “Let us pray for the departed and support the affected families,” he said, urging collaboration with government relief efforts.
The President paid tribute to Nigeria’s security forces, asking citizens to remember them in prayers. He also called for global peace amid “a world of troubles and uncertainties,” reinforcing the Eid spirit of brotherhood and generosity.
While admitting that Nigeria is “not yet where we aspire to be,” Tinubu expressed confidence in his administration’s policies, stating that the reforms are “gaining traction.” He promised that the benefits would soon reach all citizens, emphasizing long-term stability over “quick fixes.”
Closing his address, the President urged Nigerians to extend kindness to the less privileged during the festive period, regardless of faith. “May the joy of Eid multiply in our lives and in our great nation,” he said.
