Former Senator Elisha Abbo has declared that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020 was done without spiritual consultation, a decision he now suggests was a mistake based on “human judgment.”
The politician, who represents Adamawa North in the 9th Senate, has now revealed that he has undertaken a 31-day period of fasting and prayer to seek divine guidance for his next political move, teasing a major announcement in the coming weeks.
Abbo made these revelations in a social media post, stating that his previous move was driven by “tangible reasons and raw instincts” to “flow with the tide.” He contrasted this with his current approach, asserting, “I am no longer moved by sight, sweet words, emotions or just mere instincts. I am now moved by the spirit of God.”
This announcement comes amidst a backdrop of recent political friction. Senator Abbo has been an outspoken internal critic of the APC leadership in his home state, particularly concerning Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the PDP and his own party’s figures.
More significantly, he has been highly critical of the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In recent months, Abbo has been vocal about the economic hardships facing Nigerians, directly linking them to the government’s policies.
His comments on the 2027 elections have added to the speculation surrounding his teaser. Abbo has previously suggested that the opposition could easily unseat the APC if the current socio-economic challenges, such as insecurity and inflation, persist.
This has led to widespread conjecture that his imminent move could be a return to the PDP or a alignment with opposition coalition under the ADC, positioning himself as a critic ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The senator confirmed that a formal statement will be issued after “due final consultations with my people on what the spirit told me.”
