BENIN-Justice Rachel Ogbevoen of a Benin High Court has remanded a 22-year-old man, Habibu Salisu in a correctional centre over alleged robbery and attempted murder
Prosecuting counsel, Mr Polycap Odion told the Benin Criminal Division that he Salisu (A.K.A. Abebu Uahiyin)
committed the offense on April 27, 2025, at Orior 1 Community near Benin City.
Odion informed the court that the defendant did rob one Mr. Kayode Ogunbiyi of his Vivo V16 Android mobile phone valued
at N120,000.00 and at the time of the robbery of his victim, he was armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons
The prosecutor noted that the defendant did attempt to murder Mr Ogunjobi
He noted that the defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge, bordering on robbery and attempted murder.
He alleged that the offences contravened Section 243 (a) of the Criminal Law of Edo State, 2022 and Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004
The persecutor, in motion exparte, cited relevant sections and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre for an initial period of 14 days pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution ( DPP) in the state
The presiding Judge, Justice Ogbevoen
remanded the defendant in the Oko correctional centre
Ogbevoen adjourned the case until June 4, for hearing.
