Widow of the late Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, has expressed gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his support and fulfillment of promises made to them.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mrs. Helen Eboigbodin, thanked the Governor for the employment opportunity offered to her daughter and the payment of gratuity and death benefits due her late spouse. She prayed for divine guidance for Governor Okpebholo as he pilots the affairs of the State.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, representing the governor used the occasion to reaffirm Governor Monday Okpehbholo administration’s commitment to prioritizing the payment of pensions and gratuities without political bias.
He acknowledged the backlog of unpaid entitlements inherited by his administration but emphasized that efforts are ongoing to clear the debts and ensure retirees receive their due benefits while alive. The Governor revealed that, in line with this commitment, the State Government had increased its monthly pension allocation from N100 million to N1 billion.
“The ongoing disbursement covers pensioners from the 2012 batch, with plans already underway to reach the 2013 batch and beyond in the coming months,” he stated.
Governor Okpebholo also announced that the distribution of cheques would continue at the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, assuring beneficiaries that additional batches are being compiled to accommodate all entitled recipients.
Commending the Governor’s initiative, the Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade Samuel Okhuelegbe, described the gesture as a testament to the State Government’s commitment to keeping its promises and recognizing the invaluable contributions of senior citizens.
In a similar vein, a representative of the Civil Society Community in Edo State, Comrade [Name], lauded the government’s efforts, affirming that the administration’s approach reflects transparency and genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
The event marked another milestone in Governor Okpebholo’s ongoing reforms aimed at restoring dignity to the State’s pensioners and supporting the families of those who have served Edo diligently.
